Fix configure and build checks for curl.

Remove includes of confdefs.h. This is included from global.h which is forcibly included before anything else via a gcc -include option

Use symbol visibility to control what is exposed for dynamic linkage
You MUST now label API functions/variables with CW_API_PUBLIC for them to be visible outside the immediate linkage unit (i.e. core or loadable module)
You may now break up stupidly big source files for a single module into many files safe in the knowledge that only those externs marked CW_API_PUBLIC will be exposed after linkage

cw_active_channels() no longer needs to count the entries in the channel registry
